Comedy Rap Battle Wins in a War of Words

Friendly competition has been an everlasting constant in the world of stand-up comedy. Whether it be spoken or non-spoken, comedians have always matched wits to see who can be the funniest, the most clever and who can garner the loudest crowd reaction. Take the non-spoken aspect out of this contest, add a beat, you’ve got The Comedy Rap Battle.

Funny Words with Friends

Kicking off in March 2012, hosted by the unpredictable and raucously hilarious Jamar Neighbors, fresh off his appearances on “Tosh.0,” The Comedy Rap Battle has earned a reputation as one of the most unique and energetic shows in comedy. Featuring a tournament style format, comedians are pit against each other in a battle of short stand-up comedy sets followed by freestyle rap battling, and there can only be one winner. Like their tagline suggests “Like 8 Mile…but Funnier.”

This Thursday, August 29th, the all new Inside Jokes Comedy Club, located inside the historic TCL Chinese 6 Theatres, will host the “Comedy Rap Battle All-Stars” show featuring a few stand outs from previous events that have boasted such comedic talents as Hannibal Buress, Eric Andre & Chris D’elia. This Thursday’s battle features Andrew Santino, star of the upcoming ABC series “Mixology”; Morgan Murphy, executive producer of CBS’ “2 Broke Girls”; Ron Funches, guest star on “Portlandia” and “The New Girl” on Fox and Brent Morin, star of the NBC’s “Undateable,” premiering this fall.

Beats, Rhymes & Punchlines

“The connection between Hip-Hop culture and comedy is undeniable, especially with the recent success of acts like Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino, Kevin Hart aka Chocolate Droppa and others. Our show is just an extension and celebration of that growing crossover,” says Rap Battle co-producer Chris “Chris Please” Burns.

Patrons can experience this growing sensation first hand Thursday night at 8:30.
